Safety is a key word in every production space. Ensuring employee protection, operational efficiency and minimizing the risk of accidents is the basic task of the head of the plant, but also OHS experts.

The issue of security is of course complex and multidimensional, but the basis for creating a safe work environment is to develop procedures that will be effectively implemented under the enterprise. In this aspect, visual solutions are invaluable, which allow you to translate the applicable rules to simple, legible and understandable messages for employees.

Types of markings

Correct marking helps employees identify threats and observe appropriate safety procedures. What solutions work in this area?

  • Information marking: Placing information boards in a visible place provides employees with relevant information on security procedures. Boards may contain instructions, warnings, emergency procedures, emergency numbers and important contacts. It is important that the boards are placed in places where they are easily visible and available to all employees.
  • Evacuation marking: In the case of sudden situations such as fire or accident, evacuation marking is extremely important for employees' safety. The use of signs indicating the evacuation path, collection places and the location of fire -fighting equipment helps to ensure that employees will know how to behave if necessary. These characters should be placed in strategic places and regularly checked to make sure they are visible and legible.
  • Marking of dangerous areas: Marking of areas in which potential threats occur is crucial to ensure the safety of employees. Examples include marking of dangerous machines, areas with limited visibility, areas with high noise levels or areas where it is necessary to wear special protective equipment. This also applies to roads and routes of equipment movement, e.g. forklifts. Clear marking informs employees about a potential threat and reminds them of the need to be careful.

Examples of solutions

Defining potential threats and developing procedures is just the first step in ensuring security. The most important thing is that the procedures will be adopted, effectively implemented and, thus, will be observed. The palette of solutions in this area is very wide and includes both standard and non -obvious tools.

  • Labels and stickers: used on machines, tools and materials allows you to quickly identify their destiny, technical condition and safety requirements. For example, a label informing about the need to wear gloves or protective glasses when using a given tool can significantly reduce the risk of injury.
  • Mirrors: This simple solution allows the employee to determine whether he has certainly forgotten about any element of compulsory clothing. A quick glance allows you to assess whether we have certainly complied with the necessary procedures.
  • Sticks for stairs: simple and extremely effective solution in the scope of transferring crisis procedures, for example regarding an accident or fire. Pulling the procedure at points, at individual steps means that the employee sees the applicable rules and learns ... at every step 🙂
  • Visual instructions and procedures: instead of relying only on text instructions, it is worth relying on visual forms. Pictures, schemes and diagrams can help in more effective information and minimizing errors risk. Thanks to this, employees will understand the instructions more easily and will have more awareness of threats.
  • Lines and markers: using lines and markers on the floor can help organize space and prevent accidents. Lines can determine safe areas for crossing, areas of storage of materials or roads for vehicles inside the warehouse. Markers, on the other hand, may indicate places where special care should be taken, such as areas with high risk of slipping or suspended objects.
